It's a $0.27 washer vs. a multi-thousand dollar investment.
I have seen leaks, a fill plug begin to back out, and ruined drain/fill plugs due to such oversight. I can't see how you can be so anal about some things on your S2000, and then be so lazy on the cheapest and most fundamental of things.
Even on my '03 Civic - I take the extra 5 seconds and quarter of a dollar to do it right ...
Again, it's NOT about the money (please read my lips!).
As Anal, I think you've misinterpretted my philosoply. "Anal" and compulsive/obsessive is the LAST thing I care about. In fact, I take jabs at people for being anal. If it helps you sleep at night use a new washer everytime, then that's your privelege. I've never had a plug back out because I didn't use a new washer. Remember, I know how to inspect one before I put it back on.

AGAIN ............. IT'S NOT THE MONEY. Please don't tell me what it is or isn't for me. I don't think you know me that well.

You're saying it's cheap? I've stopped at two dealers recently looking for the differential washers, and neither one had them. Let's see.....my time is worth about $50/hr, and I've wasted about an hour so far. I could order a bunch on-line - that would take about a half hour, or about $25 of my time. Or I could just reuse the one I have. Or I could drive around to other dealers looking for the washers.

In over thirty years of owning and servicing my various cars, I've never replaced an oil drain plug washer, and I've never had a leak. I consider myself pretty "anal" when it comes to car maintenance, and I don't consider replacing differential washers as that important as long as they can function properly.

Great post Slalom!
I don't have the time to go to a Honda dealership to get this stiff. Nor do I want to order it online and wait for it. I have never had a problem and I've always kept the same washer.. Now if it looked bad that's a different story. I don't have an aresnal of OEM parts or the hookup to get them at a whim. I'm a normal guy... Struggling in a rough world...

shutting up.
