Default AP1 tranny vs ap2 tranny

So I'm in the market for a transmission for my boosted AP1 and I'm not sure to shop for a ap1 or ap2. Ap1 seems to be cheaper so I'm asking is their really a difference between the ap1 and ap2? It will be going on a boosted car. The gearing is the same correct?

It's not the same gearing from what I've read.
The secondary reduction gear is shorter, along with the first 4 gears which makes the ap2 transmission feel like an ap1 transmission with a 4.3 final drive gear.
The last 2 gears on the ap2 transmission is taller however.
Also carbon syncros on the ap2.
Note: this is all from what I have researched in the past 2 months. I've been thinking about a swap from ap1 to ap2 too.

For an N/A S, the ap2 tranny seems like a great mod, however you probably dont want shorter gears if your boosted. The ap2 tranny definately shifts alot easier and softer.

This is true dependent on how much power you will be making. shorter gears are not necessarily bad on a boosted S2K, I believe Sideways posted which gears are optimal at what horsepower rating.

AP2 has shorter 1st through 5th gear while 6th gear is longer

it's basically the same casing holding the shafts, and pretty much the same gears, so I'd say strength is probably the same.

Gears 1-4 are actually the same exact ratio as the AP1, and gear 5 and 6 are a little taller...

BUT the different primary reduction gear makes 1-5 effectively shorter (5 is VERY close) and 6th is taller.

Correct me if im wrong but wouldn't a carbon syncro be able to take more of a beating then a brass syncro like a ap1 trans?

Well considering that people aren't grenading their transmissions because of the syncros, I doubt it matters..
