AP2 rear end random clunks
Hello everyone. So I've searched through several other threads for the "I have a rear end clunk". I probably skimmed through about 7 to 10 different topics relating to it but wasn't able to find one issue quite like mine. Most of the clunks or clicks stem from starts from level ground or hills. Some were severe clunks, clicks, etc.
My issue is a bit different. I had the axle tick last summer. I torque down my axle/crown nut to 220lbs just about monthly. But the clunks I've had started in the past 1 week driving it in the rain (which I abhor). The clunks are soft and random. They occur not when moving from a start necessarily but when I'm in motion. Its either they don't occur over 30mph or I just cant hear them but I only notice/hear the sounds under 25mph. The clunks only come from when I've been in motion for a while at low speed (30 seconds or more). I would be inclined to think something is shaking, hanging, knocking. They sound like they're coming from my passenger rear so this is what I've tried.
- Checking the differential mounts for wear or blown condition
- Checked if my sway bar was impacting with the exhaust (yeah, they're 30.4mm)
- Re-tightened my strut tower nuts on my coilovers
- jolted several components in the rear with my hands to see if I can notice any free play
- I've rocked the car forwards and back with throttle on a steep hill and confirmed absolutely no sound.
I noticed the left and right axles have free play laterally and longitudinally. Is that normal? Should they have any play at all? Anyway, you can tell I'm dreadful of calling this a differential issue but any input from you all is very welcome. I'm sure some of you have had this problem in the past. What did it end up being? How was it resolved.
Thanks for the knowledge.

Any luck finding the fix for this issue? I have a simlar clunking noise in the rear end randomly when hitting some bumps just right or cornering hard. It doesn't always do it consistently, but it is loud and noticeable when it does. Difficult to describe, but I believe I may have the same issue...
