Exclamation AP2 Retainers Done - Cam Caps Not Threading in - HELP!

So I managed to swap the intake retainers (and all valve stem seals - exhaust side as well) successfully. I had a real problem trying to get my rocker assembly back in! Sometimes the whole thing would slide on the shafts a little. Fortunately I could catch it and keep it from coming apart! 2 VTEC pins slid out but I picked them up and put them back in. Man that was scary... Eventually I used zip ties to tie the arms up and then get it to sit where it should. I used a mallet to hammer it down as suggested by Soviet in his video. The problem is every middle bolt of the cam caps do not thread in. I keep turning and turning by hand but they just don't catch...the outer bolts thread in easily. I gave up trying today. What do I do???

Timing marks after reinstalling the cams. Took some effort to get them to align and I had to do this twice since I was struggling with the cam caps.

Timing mark as I found it before starting the job so I set it back here. It's not pointing directly at the last mark like in Soviet's video as well

Satisfying feeling when getting those keepers to stay put!

One retainer was cracked!!!

So glad I did this huge job now...

There are holes in the rocker shaft that must line up correctly, make sure its correctly positioned.

OK so what if those holes aren't lining up? (This is what I'm dreading...)

Read that earlier today but thanks. Can the shafts somehow shift when the assembly is being moved around to get it back into the head? If so, can the shafts be moved again to line the holes up without having to reassemble?
I just need the middle bolts to get to their destination without trouble otherwise I can't finish the job

If the holes dont line up, you can use a small pick or screw driver to rotate(align) the rocker shaft until you see a hole straight through. I had this issue aswell

Oh that sounds good! Can I do this while the rocker assembly is installed on the head as it is currently?

Yes itll rotate, just get a light and you should be able to see through all holes, if one hole is partially blocked stick something in there to rotate the shaft abit until all holes are lined up without anything blocking. Post up a pic if you find that it was blocking if possible

Yeah it doesn't take that much force to rotate them but be careful with metal to metal so you don't scratch anything.

Awesome. I tried sticking a screwdriver down there to see what was up but I could feel that it would contact something solid then at an angle, a smaller screwdriver would go thru. As long as it rotates while on the head itself it'll save me the pain of having to remove it and reinstall again. I'll try what you recommended asap and also get some good pics while I'm at it.
