Default AP2 vtec should be lower

So if the AP2 does in fact make more power under the meat of the powerband. You would think that Honda would have lowered the Vtec point to take advantage of the improved hp.

Which would also give the AP2 a longer VTEC powerband.

I know it can be done with afcs etc. So if people have done it. as far as i can tell both the ap1 and the ap2 can lower the vtec point to about 5600. Why cant the AP2 lower it more and still make good power?

It lowers it to whatever you set it to.

beyond a certain rpm the vtec cam will cause you to lose power. I don't know what that number is.. you'd have to do some testing.

Well whatever method you're using to lower your VTEC point, you're going to need to have it on a dyno to figure out what makes the most power.

FYI, if you're just going to use it to lower the VTEC point, skip the $300 on a VAFCII and get a Buddy Club V-Con controller. All it does is control the VTEC point. It's only $50 bucks.

[QUOTE]yes, a certain point you can lower vtec TOO far, but for the most part lowering vtec about 1000-1200rpm has proven VERY good for power.

I just played with my VTEC engagement tonight. I've got the AP1 ecu so I think VTEC has been coming on at 6000rpm, the VAFC actually reported 6100 rpm. I changed the engagement point to 5900 and it felt really good, almost no "kick" and just a nice smooth pull with a change in sound at 5900. I went one more step down to 5800 and noticed a big buck when VTEC kick on, so my car doesn't seem to like that. I know I should be on a dyno checking A/F when I'm doing this, who knows if tuning would allow VTEC to come on sooner. For now 5900 is as low as I can go with my mods.

it seems that with some mods the AP2 can really benefit from a much ealier vtec point. I guess that answers that question!
that was me. from what i've seen AP2s like to see vtec lower than most AP1's. i think the reason death's car is having a problem with lowering vtec is that its running the AP1 maps. also two, every motor is different, mine loves 5400, and on someone elses car it might suck. for the most part 5700-6000 is the best engaugement point on the average.
