AP2 vtec should be lower

I've never even talked to a shop with a dyno...but getting a vtec controller to add some power sounds like a good idea.

What should I expect to pay for say 3 passes on a dyno and what type of dyno should I look for??

I agree.. try using say 30% throttle, in 2nd gear you will definitely feel/hear the changeover.

vtec has 2 stages right?? low cam for torque and high cam for hp? if so wouldnt it mater by the weight of the car. lowering the vtec would be good if you lose some weight.
correct me if i am wrong

btw I have my VtaK set to 4K rpm and i feel no kick at crossover.I'm self tuning my car right now and shooting for around 180tq at 4k rpm. wish me luck.

I mean just that. You can test it yourself.. Cruise in 3rd gear and hit vtec. If you play with the throttle, you can make the cams switch back over while the engine is still above 6k RPM. Vtec engagement isn't simply Engine > 6000RPM, engage vtec. I don't know if its possible to raise the RPMs from below ~6k RPM to above it. Say you need 30% throttle to build enough pressure to engage vtec. It might be impossible to raise the RPMs from 5500 to say 6100 and engage vtec at 30% throttle simply because you need more gas to raise the RPMs. I've never tried... I'm always at 100%

There are 2 conditions for the VTEC engagement point based on RPM. When TPS reads 95% (WOT) and for conditions under 95%. Typically within a couple hundred RPMs apart from the factory. I am not sure what the upper and lower boundaries are for the F20/F22C, but for the K20A2 stock lower boundary limit was at 5800 RPM and the lower boundary is 6100 RPM. Yes, VTEC engagement will occur under partial throttle but will engage later than when you fully open the throttle.

As mentioned above the optimum point varies from motor, fand lower doesn't necessarily equate to more power.

I'm also curious about this. I'd love Vtec to engage closer to 5k. It seems that band from 6100 to 8000 is just too short.

So what we need is someone with a stock AP2 (04-05), a Buddy Club V-Con controller, and a dyno, where they can adjust VTEC down on back to back dyno runs and see how thepower band changes, say from stock 6k, 5.5k, 5k.

Correct?
