Default attempting clutch swap

My clutch has gottent to that point now...slipping pretty bad. I was hoping to nurse it until i store it but doesnt look as if ill make it. The dealer wants like 650 so i think i can do it with some help. Ive been reading up on it. The write up in the DIY thread sounds inclusive. Any one have any other tips ? Where can i get a helms or equivalent?
i ll prob pull everything from the tranny back since i have no lift

True, you have to remove the transmission to replace the clutch.

Buy a service manual here: www.helminc.com

If they want $650 out the door that seems like a very good price. Is that parts and labor??? If so, I think you'd be hard up to beat that. Most dealers want over 1k for this job.

Yep, my local honda stealership wanted 1200 for labor. That seems like a good price

thats an extremely good price.. iirc honda quotes a clutch job at ~12 hours.

cost me about $1200 parts/ friend's shop labor pricing (with me doing a good chunk of the labor ahead of time)

local honda dealer quoted me $1800

It is rare that a S2000 clutch job is done properly in less than 10 hours so any quote under US$800 is a steal (assuming it is done right). I've done a couple and it takes me well over 12 hours in my garage.

To me it would be stupid to NOT get the dealership to do the clutch for that price! And if you dont have much experience with working on projects (clutch replacement) like that, you could end up getting into a pretty crappy situation.

Thanks for all your posts/advice. I really appreciated it. I guess 700 for labor isnt bad after all from the dealer. I did do some more calling around and a local shop quoted me at 400 plus tax. Its not honda but ive heard its a repubitable place. Jamestown auto center...not a chain repair shop..just local shop...what do you guys think, get it done there or save my pennies for honda.
