I just don't think it is worth it to use the transmission for any breaking at all for normal driving. The brakes are cheap, easily replaced items. Why worry about rev matching or heel / toe shifting on the way to the office, just to get an extra 500 miles out of a set of brake pads?

Braking the car with the engine in gear and clutch engaged is not necessarily engine braking...
