check your valve retainers to see if they're cracked, I did exactly the same thing you did, and I have not had any problems from it, the s2k is a very strong build piece of Japanese engineering
You could have mircofractured it. Down the road they will get worse.

If you don't mind opening your valve cover a few times to check (you still don't get to see the underside of teh retainer very well), it's just not worth the headache nor the uneasy feeling that it might grenade on you.

150.00 is cheap insurance. Also are you the original owner? Did the previous owner do the same thing 30,000 miles ago?

yea, I checked the valve springs, but this was 5000 miles ago.. and so far, the engine runs smooth.

Also this is a case where
AP1>AP2
since the ap1 tranny second tops out around 65 rather then 56-ap2
and you can rev the F20c out to a little above 9k with no worries

I can imagine an f22 going kaboom! in this situation
Not trying to start an ap1. vs. ap2 war here just pointing out what I found intertaining here
your missing the point that ap2 engines CAN rev to 9k and people do rev them to 9K on a regular basis. So, maybe someone can help me out with a gearing calculator here, but what is 65mph in 2nd gear equate to in RPM on f22c and ap2 tranny?

AP2 and their margin for error FTW

To answer your question about 9200 rpms
OP said he said he was going 65-70mph, doing almost 70 in second gear in an AP2 = bad news.
an ap2 at 70mph in second gear is spining about 9900rpm
I think your missing the point
From my point of view... he was driving an ap1 and money shifted (ouch).
Had he been driving an ap2 and money shifted, there is a bit of margin there before the big kaboom so I fail to see your point of AP1 > AP2 in this case. Of course speed is what makes or breaks this argument and for the OP to know what speed the engine was spinning when his foot came off the clutch is impossible.

and as a disclaimer, I wish I would have bought an AP1 myself so this isn't a AP2 > AP1 point of view by any means.

Anyone else wondering why OP was going 70ish MPH in neutral?

I don't think it was the OP who mentioned he was in neutral while on the freeway, but you are right, one must always stay in gear in that situation. I can only imagine someone who is learning to drive a stick doing this when trying to feel the notches for the gears.

Has anyone here ruined a 2.2L engine on an AP2 due to a misshift/over-rev? I'd like to read more on it.

Yeah that was me who had it in neutral not the OP. Was sick and slightly delerious and wasn't sure what was going on as I was all messed up in the head and put it in neutral and then into what I thought was 4th gearbut felt like it must have been 2nd gear.
