the only way that would be seen is the misfire code freeze frame data (engine rpm) if it triggerd the code that fast.. although i think there is an engine over-rev detected code on certain model hondas

well since low compression stemmed from user error they wouldnt cover it. I was under the impression that the information pertaining to an over rev was stored and readily available to honda. now would the insurance company even be that in tune with s2000s to check? which warranty company is it?

How far into the rev band exactly is Overrevving? (on AP1 vs. AP2)

AP1 anything over 9K could be considered over-revving

I think you're misquoting Billman...

Think about how a 4-cycle engine works and explain how a piston could hit an intake valve... If the valve is bent, then the piston hit it. If the intake floated, it would smack the valve seat hard and do other damage, but not bend the valve.

To the OP: if the warranty company sends someone to inspect the engine, the overrev will be obvious. Good luck.
This is correct. Cracked retainers are the issue most commonly associated with intake valves. This is a bent valve, not a dropped valve.

Most warranties cover "defects in material and workmanship." They don't cover damage if a tree falls on your car, you drive your car into a tree, or you overrev the engine and bend the valves. There's no need for a stored code: if the valve is bent, the piston hit it. If the timing chain, etc. are OK it will be obvious that the engine was overreved.

Maybe this isn't the case; good luck and I hope it works out for you.

Ok, so one more update. They originally thought that it was a bent valve due to overrev based on a viewing scope and camera that they put through the spark plug hole. Well after receiving my authorization to remove the head completely (no guarantee that the warranty would cover this cost at first) they discovered that the valves themselves were fine, but the seats were bad on the exhaust side causing the loss of compression. Upon discovering this, they called the warranty company to inform them, and they had no trouble covering the job under contract. Long story short, the valves will be resurfaced with the seats replaced, and everything should be good to go hopefully by tomorrow or Friday.

One interesting side note is that upon reading through the contract further, it is only good for a lifetime total of $4,000 worth of repairs, this one being $1,800. Therefore I am left with approximately $2,200 left of credit to the warranty toward future repairs and headaches trying to get those repairs. I asked the shop if they could throw a port and polish job for the head on the running tab, so I'll see what happens.

Don't get a port and polish, you can do more damage then good.
