Banjo Bolt Thread Stripped! Please Help!!!
It was done because there was problems with S2’s in Europe driving on the autobahn at such high rpm’s all the time which would cause a lack of oil to lubricate the piston walls and this would cause premature wear on those components. So Europe and other places who have higher speed limits had a recall/product update while places such as North America did not.
The oil jet bolt was a RECALL in other parts of the world, but not the USA. They likely summed up (to save their ass) that sustained high speed operation was not a problem in the USA.
They are a must for FI, or SHSO (sustained high speed operation)

It’s nothing to do with them breaking or falling out, that’s the ap1 valve retainers, it’s that Honda upgraded them in mid 02 to a 4 hole design instead of the 2 hole to allow more oil to flow through.

The official Honda dealer service literature in the UK states 'the bolts control the oil to the underside of the pistons... to regulate their operating temperature... we recommend the improved oil jet bolts are fitted as soon as possible'.
They're obviously an improvement and I have changed mine, however most (street) cars seem to do just fine without them hence why it wasn't a world-wide recall.
The affected range for the older style oil jet bolts is by VIN, not engine number. The older style banjo oil bolts are present in the following ranges:

Good thing you were able to repair it, were you using a 3/8 drive tools? For future reference for any DIYers please use a 1/4 drive wobble socket, long extension and NO ratchet. Screw them in by hand, rotating the extension until you run them down then torque them down to spec.

Bit confused on what numbers i'm looking at to confirm i have the update or not.
Vin- 11462T009972
Engine number- 1029971
I think I do have them? But if someone can confirm, be great. Thanks
