Default Battery Flat / Alarm Problem

Hello folks - hopefully someone has some idea. I've let the battery go flat on my S2k. When I went back to it some months (don't ask) later I charged the battery. Now the alarm goes off when I connect the power but that's pretty much it. Pushing the alarm keyfob buttons doesn't do anything. I've replaced the batteries in them just to be sure. I've also tried following the procedure for reprogramming the keyfobs in the system (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...S2000alarm.pdf) and that doesn't work (presumably because the alarm isn't disarmed). It's the factory alarm.

Any ideas what to try next?

cheers! Jim.

The original starting battery is probably toast. What's the voltage after is sits all night?

Well, after a (too brief) charge it's got 12.2 volts on it. And I appreciate the battery might be bollocks now. But I think there's a separate problem with the alarm ... I can't get to the point of attempting to turn over the engine.

Not under load 12.2v is about 60% charged and if it's just off the charger that's merely the surface charge. Not sure if the OEM security is that voltage sensitive. To see if the battery is good charge it at least 24 hours with a good 3-stage charger, not a trickle charger. Then it sit 24 hours. Should be 12.7v after resting that long. Testing after a rest (neither charging nor discharging) of 12 hours is probably enough but 24 seems to work better for me.

Ya gotta disconnect the Negative terminal on the battery if the car will sit for more than a couple of weeks or the parasitic battery draws like the radio memory, door locks, and alarm system will drain the battery to the point of damage,

You're likely going to need a new battery so I'd solve that part first and work the alarm later.

Yeah - I'm going to put a master switch on it I think. It regularly gets left for a few weeks ...
