Thumbs up Battery light came on...

The alternator in my '00 AP1 died and left me stranded so I replaced it with a rebuilt one. I was on the freeway when the alternator died so I was able to drive it about 2 miles before it completely shut down my car. While I was driving at around 75mph the dash went black and the car starting sputtering.

Question: Although I have a new alternator, could driving it for those 2 miles cause the battery to lose it's charging ability? Or, does this mean that my alternator wasn't rebuilt correctly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So, you're saying AFTER you installed the new alternator, you're still getting this battery light intermittently?
It could be the alternator; not producing enough amp.

Yes, this happened AFTER the new alternator install.

I went to a mechanic's shop and he checked it out and the alternator is producing amps well within spec. The battery is holding charge like it's supposed to as well.

Red face

We double checked all connections too. The light hasn't come on anymore since this morning. We'll see how it goes this weekend.
I'll keep you guys posted.

After installing the Alt did you let the car run for a bit or did the symptons happen right after the install when you test drove it? Maybe the battery only charged a little before you started driving and taht caused it???

Thumbs down

neveronlines2k: Symptoms actually happened two days after installing the new Alt and running the car with no problems.

Update: I haven't gotten a single light since I first posted this thread.
I'll be going to the track on Sunday, we'll see how my car holds up on the track.
