Hey dudes,

I'm relocating my stock battery to the spare tire location (along with my amp hopefully) to maximize storage space in the trunk.

What should I do to vent the battery? I presume a closed box will be a bad thing, and I am a little concerned that if I seal off the battery by putting the spare tire liner/cover back on there will eventually be a build up of noxious gasses in that area....

also, I am not excited at all to spend $200+ on an dry cell or sealed battery when my stock one is perfectly fine...

I need some expert opinions guys!

Thanks
OP,

First, when you're referring to moving your battery to the spare tire area and at the same time saying you're not going to purchase a dry cell; please be aware that you can not turn your stock battery on its side. Seeing as there is no other way you could fit in there I am just assuming you are going to slide back into the large area where the spare tire would sit. Do not do this with a non-dry cell battery.

If you are going to use an enclosure, then yes it should be vented. If you do a little digging you'll find some guys on here that pieced together a kit. Most of them achieved it successfully but ended up either spending close to 200 bucks or investing a lot of their time; which for some is worth more than 200 bucks.

From experience, I can tell you that it definitely changes the weight distribution; but so does everything. Removing your tire w/ spare tire accessories just about = the weight of the battery. I believe its 37lbs so that should be close. Removing your cat and installing a TP. Getting a lighter header. etc

Anyways, the point is, unless you are truly worried weight distribution, which it sounds like you're not considering you're contemplating an amp, just do what you want. More importantly though, learn from every single thing you do.

Most of the kits come with a box, harness and wiring. Look at some of the DIYs on here. Below are some I used.

thx for the info, that is great bud!

I didnt know the OEM battery wouldn't fit straight-up in the spare tire hole. too bad, but ohh well. guess it will go beside the passenger taillight.

That is where mine is located. You could, if you were metal-capable, counter sink it below the trunk floor. There is nothing over there on the underside of the trunk right in front of the tail light. I will eventually do this to retain a stock look and my 'massive' trunk space.

hmm... so im a little confused mattstryfe ... you removed the trunk liner and cut the metal between the passenger taillight and the spare tire cover is, and welded in a 'sunken' battery tray/holder spot, then replaced the trunk liner?

got pics? that'd be sweet ass
