Default Best engine oil options for car driven 6 mths/yr

I was wondering what people think my best option for engine oil would be. I have a MY 01 with 10,500 miles on it. I store the car from October 1-April 1 and have my oil changed about 100 miles before I store it for the winter. I do not seem to burn much oil right now as some others, but was wondering what benefits I may have by going synthetic. Also, when do you think the best time to change my oil would be (before I store it, afterwards, or sometime in between)? If I go synthetic, it would probably be Mobil 1 due to easy availability, but am still wondering if it would be safe to go more than a year without changing the oil if the miles don't put me over. Also, I do not track or race the car, but do love to Vtec around the town.

Thanks for any input as you guys know a lot more about this stuff than anyone I know!

Since you don't putmany miles on the car, you will likely need to change oil based on time rather than mileage. That means changing your oil avery 6 months or so.

I would change the oil just before storage and again at some point about 6 months later. The type of oil you choose is up to you, and there is a wonderfully helpful FAQ stuck to the top of this forum called "The Oil Journals". Read it and then decide for yourself.

Would I still have to change synthetic every 6 months as well?

I only drive ~6-7,000 miles/yr and I use Mobil 1 twice a year.

So far, so good.

If you choose to go synthetic, I'd suggest you change the oil at the beginning of your driving season. Just prior to storage, change the oil again and put a new filter on there. Then at the start of the next driving season, drive it for the remaining part of the 6 months since the last change and then just change the oil. The filter will be fine since it hasn't worked much during storage. If money is not a factor, why not change the filter too. Another few bucks shouldn't kill ya.
