Oil Change Issue
I was wondering Stupid me got an oil change at 700 miles, and now i have about 2500 miles on my car, was wondering when the best time to get another oil change would be and if it would be best to get it done at the dealer, or synthetic oil. Also The dealer when I went to get my oil change put a sticker then and put 4500 miles to come back, but that is a long time to go. So i would like some help from people who would know.
Thanks

make sure you are checking the oil levels at EVERY GAS FILL UP. no joking here. changing the oil at 700 miles would drain out any of the additives that will create friction that were put there from the factory to seal up the piston rings to the piston walls.
I would avoid synthetic until two oil changes from now. your next one, make it near 4000, that's just my guesstimate.

Check out the FAQ on this site about "oil consumption" and "changing of oil". I believe its not wise to change your factory oil until after 3750 miles and also don't switch over to synthetic oil unitl after 10,000 miles. Better to be safe than sorry.

you really change oil at 700miles? is that the honda factory oil? if not I recommend you change to the honda factory oil that help break in immeditately and change into the same oil at around 3750 to 4000miles, after 7500 (or 10000 for play safe) then switch to synthetic oil.
I know some car like my mom's IS300 recommend to change oil after break in, but that is not for honda.

I have a similar story. I bought my car back in November. I put 2100 miles on it and then stored it for the winter. I changed the oil and filter. I used Mobil 1 Synthetic and the Mobil 1 Synthetic filter. I know many people caution against synthetics so early, but i bought the marketing mumbo jumbo on the Mobil site. I noticed no difference driving it after I changed the oil. Maybe smoother V-tec engagement.
Mobil 1 is the factory fill for Porsche, Dodge Viper, Mercedes, and Aston Martin. Those engine's have tolerances in the same ball park as our S2000. Japansese Engine Gods! As far as seals etc, Mobil 1 has chemicals in it that make sure engine seals break in and seal correctly
So we will see what happens when spring hits. If anything, it will prolong my break in. I think this little engine should have no problem over 100,000 miles with regular maintenence. How long should my oil change intervals be with synthetic oil. 3750, 5000, 7500? Let me know what you guys think.

All the synthetic will do is prolong break-in. Ideally I would change by 3k with a conventional oil, then 3k later with synthetic.
Oil change intervals, regardless of oil, is purely a personal matter of preference. I don't think you will ever see anyone be able to conclusively say that doing one will result in xx more miles out of the car. Synthetic oils, though, were initially designed for longer intervals and don't break down as much/as fast as conventional. As such I would feel safe stretching to 5k or even 7k with a quality filter and watching the oil level like a hawk.
You might note that Honda recommends 3500 or 7000 mile oil changes. Do you think they would recommend that if you were risking serious damage? As with any maintenence interval, though, Honda is in business to make money and probably isn't terribly worried about how well your car performs beyond 100k miles. I've never changed oil at more than 4k miles on any of my Hondas and probably never will; to me, it's cheap insurance.

I know this flies in the face of what Honda US is saying but in my opinion the reason Honda US has its position is only so it can be seen to match the intervals of other manufacturers for competitive lifetime service cost comparions.
After the first oil change subsequent changes occur at 5,000km (3,125 miles) and every 5,000km thereafter.
Here in Australia we are not seeing the levels of engine failure that have been reported in North America. I attribute this directly to the sensible oil change approach demanded by Honda Australia.
Let's face it - do you really want to take the car up to 9,000 rpm with all those metal filings and other chunks of debris floating around in the oil? Imagine the sort of wear they will cause at those accelerated revs together with all that strain on the motor.
In answer to your original question, change the oil again at 3,000 miles and enjoy many years of stress free and trouble free motoring.

[B]Web, you did the right thing. Here in Australia Honda changes the oil and filter at 1,000km (625 miles) as part of a compulsory free service BEFORE you are allowed to VTEC. If you do not have this change then Honda will VOID your warranty.

I too am thinking of changing my oil very soon. I am now at 750kms and am thinking of changing oil and fiter at 1000kms. I did the exact same for my GTI VR6 and Civic and sofar both run flawless. I cant understand why Honda Australia and Honda of Japan say that you must have your car's oil changed at 1000kms while our first service is at 6000kms....Same engine, same oil and same factory from which the S2000 came from.
I think I will do the 1000km service by myself sometime soon.
