why would you not tighten down the slave? if there's play in the mounting holes, that could be why your clutch pedal has no resistance until 3/4 of the way down.
Good catch. I didn't notice this, and was assuming he was just doing a normal flush/bleed.

In a nut shell: by releasing the piston, then opening the bleeder and pushing the piston back in and the fluid out, you're use the slave as a pump.
With the rear pointed upwards there is the smallest chance of trapped air, in combination with the piston all the way in you pretty much get the "Mother of all slave bleeds"

Would it be better then to jack the car up from the rear? Thanks for the link, very helpful.
Hopefully i'll get this wrapped up today.

IMO: the best way to bleed the slave is to remove it from the trans.

Read (and do ) this too:

Thanks SpitfireS. I followed that link & greased everything up. I also bled it with it removed from the trans. like you mentioned and it worked MUCH better than the way I had been doing it. It appears that I've gotten all the air out as there's a solid stream of fluid coming out.

The clutch pedal still has a couple of inches before firming up, but it feels like it did before the slave went bad. Is there anything left to do before I take it off the jacks & test drive it?
