Best spark plugs for N/A '01 AP1?
OEM NGK's all the way.
Denso plugs suck, as they come apart and destroy engines. Had it happen right in front of me on the dyne, and there are quite a few others who lost engines because of them.

Yes, you are correct that changing plugs early does not hurt anything mechanically. It simply adds an unnecessary expense to your operating costs and wastes resources.
Please let us know how many miles are on your car. If you have less than 50k miles, your money is burning a hole in your pocket, and want to improve the operation of your car, I'd spend it on something other than spark plugs.

I've been running the IK-22's for some time now without a prob... might look into switching back
