Default Spark Plug and Coil Pack Recommendations / Thoughts?

Folks,

I think it's time for me to replace the plugs. Also, I need a new spare coil pack to keep around...

The Moddiction site lists three different plugs available for my MY02 (AP1) engine:

NGK Laser Iridium, NGK Laser Platinum, and Zex Hyperformance.

Does anyone have any experience / opinions about these? If I'm not mistaken, NGK and maybe Denso as well make the OEM plugs? I could order these from a Honda dealer, but I thought I'd ask around.

Moddiction also lists an "Okada Plasma Direct" coil pack, which is clearly not OEM. Any experience / opinions?

Best wishes. - Charlie

Buy OEM from majestic to get the right plug, gapped correctly out of the box.

Thanks, Mike. That's exactly what I decided to do. I ordered the NGK plugs, not the Denso.

I replaced mine at 85k with OEM and the car runs great.

I replaced mine Saturday with the NGK Double Platinums #7772 and the car is running mint now. Pretty sure mine were original at 146k miles and the car was starting to run very poorly

Awesome, Mike. Glad I chose the NGKs.

So, JHMAP... Beware of intermittent/dead coil packs if you're experiencing misfires... I know it's not the cause of everyone's issues, but they've been the bane of my S2000's otherwise completely flawless F20C engine. In my experience, it's the coil packs that have failed, never the plugs. That said, I'm long overdue to replace the plugs.

Do you folks know of any difference between the Iridium and Platinum versions of the NGK plugs? I ended up ordering the OEM plugs from Majestic, but I was curious.

In my case, if I drove the car until it hit operating temp, then shut it off say if I was getting gas or running into a store, when I restarted it, the car would run fine for a couple minutes then run like absolute crap for about ten minutes, missing, bogging down... sounded like a cammed out muscle car. After replacing the plugs I tried it a few times running errands and it *seems* to be cured. I was hoping it would just be plugs, when I pulled them they were awful

Oh, well, that certainly sounds right! Cool.

If you hit the problem again, you might want to try to nail down which cylinder (if it's only one) is not working right. I wrote down a cool procedure for doing that here: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/108...t__p__23143537
