I don't doubt you've seen the bad parts. But I'm not clear on how you can tell from the damage that the cause is "all due to skip shifting," rather than for example just "shifting hard and fast" all the time. Or racing (formal or informal), track days, autocross, etc.

Greg, I know you've been on the forum for a long, long time. But, you can believe Billman in pretty much whatever he says. He's one of the most knowledgable people there is about s2k's, he chooses what he says very carefully, examines his cars and takes a good history of all his patients and their drivers.

Because all the customers specifically admitted they had been skip shifting for years. Skipping into 6th being the number one cause of damage.

Racing, tracking, and autocross (done properly of course) does not do the type of damage that skip shifting does. They all cause accelerated wear on gear teeth and bearings, but on a small scale.

Skip shifting hammers the leading edge of the cog (gear collar), pushing burrs to the trailing edge.

I have seen on Youtube where people do a quick acceleration, say, through 3rd gear and then position the shifter to 4th and then 5th without releasing the clutch and then finally 6th. Would this be considered skipping?

Rowing through the gears is not skip shifting, and is fine.

just my .02, use your gears, engine braking uses no gas, saves from your using your brakes as much. i revmatch downshift every gear. if im in 6th going to a stop i go all the way to second downshifting to every gear and only go to neutral when at almost idle about to stop. being in gear at all times is a good practice, never know when you need to put power down. saved me a few times. and double clutching, ugh meh ill stay out of that one.
lol at leaves it in gear to save gas, but then sits at the light in neutral waiting for green light.
what does one do at a red light besides wait in neutral? think about what you say before you say it, especially when laughing at someones comment when your counter-comment is utterly wrong.

Sarcasm and perhaps some irony? Isn't ironic, don't you think, to worry about saving gas when coming to a light, only to sit and the light wasting gas? Perhaps if you're late for a wedding date it might be worth it in case it goes green, perhaps it's good advice I just can't take. Who would have thought.

No. Save gas when you can. Don't worry about it when there's nothing you can do.
