I bought a used block and head for 1600. They were seperate because the seller was going to sell the head separate but the buyer backed out so I got to put it all back together . ARP head studs and a new head gasket later my S has been running strong for 5 months now! (knock on wood)

damn that sucks... Have you had it since brand new? or bought it used? About how long ago did you, if you bought it used? Does the retainer appear to have been the problem?

Honestly bro, if the block can be saved, bore it out. Pump up the liters get a new head and call it a day, money wise. It will be a lot cheaper than doing a qhole new swap, even buying a used block.....just my .02

P.S. If you can show pics of the block that'll be great

I blow my motor dec, and swapped the f22c into my ap1, only because I'm using the block for my 2.4l turbo set-up
