Default Blower motor is possessed!

After my last session at the track a few weeks ago my blower motor started turning on randomly and then turning off. It wouldn't stop doing this so I pulled the fuse and have procrastinated diagnosing the problem. I THINK it's turning on at the highest speed setting but I really can't tell as the indicator light stack next to the fan speed switch on the dash is not coming on with the blower motor. I was hoping maybe someone has dealt with this sort of thing and can't possibly save me some time by steering me in the right direction in terms of what to look at first. Thanks in advance for any advice guys!

Sounds like the fan switch is getting hinky. Does the switch work, as it is supposed to?

No it doesn't respond at all to any inputs. Doesn't turn on the motor and doesn't turn the motor off when it comes on randomly. Like I said it's bizarre because the indictor lights next to the switch don't come on when it turns on. I suspected I'd have to remove the cluster bezel and replace the heater control unit. But I want to rule out all other potential sources of the problem. The heater control unit is all one piece, right? I can't just replace the fan switch, correct?

Kinda looks that way. You may be able to dissemble the unit and check the contacts. Just a WAG.

Thanks for the help guys. I took the bezel off and discovered that the 32p dash harness connection had fallen off contact with the heater control unit. Warmth again!!

Thanks, for the update! Glad it was a relatively painless fix.
