Default Bought S2K from dealership( sputtering)

Hello i bought a beautiful 2002 RYP from a well known dealership. It is in very good condition. However, after bringing it home, I noticed there is slight sputtering, misfing or whatever you want to call it. its barely noticeable, but im not your average driver and i can tell/hear. Also, whilst sitting in idle, there is vibration in the cockpit..not sure if this is normal or might be related to the rough feeling of the engine.

car has 98K. bone stock. new air filter. Dealership put fuel cleaner when they acquired the car. I put premium gas during journey home. Carfax and records are plentiful, but there are no records of spark plug change. Ive started looking at s2k forums and researched this and came upon the dirty map sensor diagnostic.

anyone want to chime in? Im new to s2k, maybe the vibration in the car during idle is because racecar?

do you seafoam these engines? should i start by running octane boosters and fuel injector cleaners?
I was going to do that, then change the spark plugs and clean the map sensor. Anything more, and i would hate to say im disappointed in the s2000....

help new found s2000 friends

Do not sea foam the engine. Octane boosters will likely do nothing for it as well. Check plugs, have a valve adjustment done, change all the fluids with down premium fluid like Amsoil. It is doubtful the fuel cleaner did much of anything. So long as there isn't a cel my suggestions should make a difference. You could do a compression test and leak down but that seems like overkill unless the problem persists or gets worse.

Check out my thread -- I had a sputter and light pops out of the exhaust and some rough vibrations I could feel in the cabin:
https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/113...-just-at-idle/

In my case, it was a coil pack going bad, but not bad enough to spit out a CEL.

Since you just got the car, for peace of mind, after you solve this problem, I'd do all the fluids + spark plugs + filters to create a baseline. I'd also make sure the compression test is solid, the valves are adjusted, and your retainers are inspected for cracks/overrev during that process.

I would definitely change the spark plugs first. When I bought my car 8 months ago, my car idled rough and had a CEL code for cylinder 3 misfire. After changing the spark plugs my car ran much better.

Take it back and see if they will help at the dealer first. Especially If it were to wind up being a compression issue.

^^^ What they said. I recently purchased an '02 with 90k miles. It ran OK but was off a little. Plugs were original and replacing them made a big difference. Just did the TCT and valve adjustment. All valves were about .002 loose and is much quieter now. All retainers were perfect. Also did compression check and all good. But I will say the new plugs were the most noticeable.

If you're so keen on these things, why didn't you bring it up before buying it? Why did you buy it before having the issues addressed? Seafoam and octane boosters don't fix anything..

And you're disappointed in the S2000? More like the S2000 is disappointed in you.

Why so harsh! Sometimes you can't notice everything in a test drive.

You're acting like he's saying the S is badly designed, or has inherent weaknesses. He's just trying to make his car run properly.

an asshole on every forum

So addressed to you,

Hey asshole, I bought the car from another state and the car drove perfectly during test drive. I bought it from Lexus of Birmingham, and they are a top notch dealership. The carfax and service reports are all there and very detailed and thorough. This sputtering just started happening very recently. I have no idea how these things are supposed to feel on a s2000, so i have no idea what is normal, and what is not.
