Also, whilst sitting in idle, there is vibration in the cockpit..not sure if this is normal or might be related to the rough feeling of the engine.

car has 98K. bone stock. new air filter. Dealership put fuel cleaner when they acquired the car. I put premium gas during journey home. Carfax and records are plentiful, but there are no records of spark plug change. Ive started looking at s2k forums and researched this and came upon the dirty map sensor diagnostic.

anyone want to chime in? Im new to s2k, maybe the vibration in the car during idle is because racecar?

do you seafoam these engines? should i start by running octane boosters and fuel injector cleaners?
I was going to do that, then change the spark plugs and clean the map sensor. Anything more, and i would hate to say im disappointed in the s2000....

help new found s2000 friends
Did you ever find/fix your problem. Interested bcuz my 2007 just took a dump, yesterday. It seemed without warning. No CEL. Black smoke from exhaust. Started sputtering and lugging right after I filled the fuel tank. What the heck. Now engine cranks but won't start

FOLLOWING THIS POST!

I have the EXACT same issue. Changed sparks, cleaned IACV, new filters, and did a compression test (210 all the way around all 12 times)

So I have NO IDEA what this is, and I totally want to find out.

To add: Mine is only really bad once its warmed up fully, and at idle. Dont notice it elsewhere. Going to try getting a new coil pack soon.

This seems to be a common issue suddenly. I'm dealing with the same symptoms currently.

So here's a video of mine:

Tried to remove and replace each coil pack one at a time with the new pack -- no difference. So sadly for me, its not the coil pack!

Still following for updates.

Very odd, as your video sounds EXACTLY like mine with the puffs -- mine had more than yours -- but dejavu: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Uvr...ature=youtu.be

Coil pack fixed mine, but if you review my thread, my other theory was fuel injectors (per other posters w/ similar symptoms):
https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/113...t__p__23709147

After that, lhe less savory theories are tight valves or bent valves, per Billman:

Hopefully someone else will chime in with more ideas.

would help on what to change when buying a car, especially from a dealership. Dealerships think washing the car is making a car new again lol Maybe my point was not explained well.

Did you check the valve lash clearances. It's fairly simple.
