Default Brake light has me stumped.

So my brake light got stuck on almost about 9 months ago.

I figured out the float in the master cylinder was getting stuck. But after I would "unstick" it the light would come on after a few min.

I got tired of fingering my master cylinder so I said screw it, I drove for 9 months with the light on. Today I remembered when I would unplug the master cylinder sensor, the light would go off. So I decided to unplug the sensor, and tape the connections closed.

Now the brake light works as it should with with ebrake engagement and disengagement!!! Weird.

I did tighten my ebrake cable 2 days ago. I don't know if I hit something that led to this stroke of luck or what.

9 months ago the sensor unplugged meant brake light off ALL the time. Now with it disconeccted the light goes and on and off like it should with the ebrake.

Let's see how long this lasts! lol

Well the light would go off for me when 9 months ago when I unplugged the sensor. Although I'm thinking that may not be how it should work now.

LOL, had the same problem for at least 12 years, and had left my MC fluid sensor unplugged for all that time -- it still worked fine (brakes were great, dash light still came on with ebrake). It always kinda bothered me though, so I finally got around to replacing the MC -- and now I'm dealing with a soft pedal! Hoping it's just a little air still trapped in there, but can't help but feel like I shoulda left well enough alone. :-/

I just looked up that light in the factory shop manual and looked at the electrical diagram—the only two inputs to the brake light on the dash are the parking brake switch and the master cylinder fluid level switch.

According to the manual, the master cylinder fluid level switch is not something that can be replaced separately—its built into the master cylinder itself and not a separate part inside it. .

There appears to be no issue in leavng the sensor unplugged other than you lose the fluid level monitoring capability and have to look at the master cylinder to see the level. The parking brake switch will continue to make the light go on and off as its a separate circuit directly to the light.

Speedbleeders will make your life easier, but, yes, you have a bleed problem.

Just do a gravity bleed or use a pump of some kind or just have a friend help you but just skip the speed bleeders they always end up leaking, at least in my experience.

That's because people don't read the instructions, you are supposed to reapply thread sealant once you've used them a few times.
