Default Brake Question

I have an HPDE coming up in a few weeks, so I decided to check my brakes today to make sure everything was OK. Turns out I need pads, but I found this on the right front.

Fluid came out when I tipped it up, but I'm assuming that fluid was water and not brake fluid. It wasn't blue, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't fluid as I run the ATE Super Blue.

Is this a problem? I've been searching the forum and still can't figure out exactly what it is. Is it the piston seal? A dust cover for the seal? Is it important?

Those dust boots get fried and worn on many cars (actually yours are better than mine) but without any negative impact. I would ignore the wear for now.

Thanks for the reply. So what's the purpose then?
I track this car. Is it still not an issue?

with a torn boot, you will likely develope a sitcking caliper over time. ar long as you are not loosing any fluid you should be safe, although if a caliper starts to stick you will go through pads quickly and unevenly.

i would suggest a rebuild. or if you like to track, this is the perfect excuse to upgrade to sone more potent brakes

Upgrayedd to more potent brakes because of a torn boot that comes in a $20 rebuild kit? That's a really bad excuse to spend $1500-3000.

My boot got burned too. It's just a dust boot.

OK thanks! I'll keep an eye on it. I was just worried that it was something that needed to be taken care of ASAP.
