Smile Broken Cam holder, unreplaceable?

So I have been through hell with my F20C1. It has turned into a love/hate relationship. I spun a rod bearing 3 days after I had it at the honda shop. No oil. They checked it while it was at the shop, but somehow failed to mention it. But anyways they wouldnt fix it. So I take the engine out and send it to miami.

They rebuild the entire engine and send it back. Re-install it and it isnt running right. So I send the whole car to miami. Wrong connecting rod in #1 cylinder. They fix it and take it for a test drive and snap the timing chain because they didnt know how to re-install the auto-tensioner. Fix it and I go to pick the car up. Half way back the rod starts knocking again. Im pissed off. I completely strip the engine down. Wrong bearings. And while taking the cams off the head, two of the upper cam holders are broken in half. One right in the middle, the other right over the cam! There is also some slight wear on the cams themselves.

So is the whole engine shot? Because the cams dont seem to have too much tension on the holders. I dont wanna do this wrong but I cant afford a new head or a whole brand new engine. I have just enough for the Crank and bearings and Connecting rods.

Sounds like you won't be driving anytime soon. Find a used engine, and don't take let any of the people who have worked on your car touch it again.

I wouldn't touch rebuilding that engine. You don't shop for a wife at a whore house.

lmao bluntly put but well said. Look for a short block somewhere. Just remove the head to check for scoring and rust. Good luck

Cam holders aren't sold separately. The only way to get a new matching set is with a new cylinder head.

He meant to check the serviceability of the engine - NOT to use the OP's old head (even though he said "short block").

Assuming you live in Florida somewhere - do you have an attorney? Have him call the shop and see what they are willing to do. Negligence and fault are clearly evident and documented. Repairing your engine should NOT be an option. And you should also retain your original block - for your own personal parts pile.

My point was that if the OP finds a short block he will not need to remove the head, since it won't have one. A new or used short block will still leave the OP looking for a head. Why not just find a "long block" in the first place.

Well it looks like im gonna squeeze an F22 into my AP1. Out of an 05 so no DBC and DBW complications. I know the gearing is different in the AP1 but for the price i really cant beat it.

And yes sleeper im gonna keep my old engine and build it as i can afford. Probably for boost.
