Default Burning smell

I was wondering. I have a new 07 s2k that i have owned for about 3 weeks. I already have over 1100 miles on it and tonight noticed a "burning rubber smell coming from the rear of the car by the tires.

I have not "peeled out" the only thing i recently did was take one or two corners a little fast. Since I am not familiar with all of the normal smells would cornering hard cause the car to smell like that or is there something else I should look for before I decide to take it to the dealer ?

Thanks,

Look under the car and make sure you haven't picked up some sort of rubber or plastic road debris "cling-on" on the exhaust system.

You didn't, by chance, leave the parking brake partially engaged when driving?? I didn't think so...this can build up alot of heat (and smell bad on its own)

If the tire pressure is abnormally low you can build up alot of heat in the tires.

I remember the first few miles of the car... everything smelled. Clutch, brakes, tires, anything and everything. It went away quickly, and I'm not sure what might be the cause of the smell under normal terms at 1,100 miles, but I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it continues.

Just taking a corner fast and a subsequent odor shouldn't be too much cause for concern, as I said, unless it continues.

Keep on (too soon to joke about?)

Good Ideal I will take a look. I hope put the parking break down all the way. If not I figure I would have noticed it but I suppose crazier things could happen.

I checked underneath and everything seems pretty clean an dry. I noticed that them smell is coming from near the rear wheel wells. I was looking at some other older threads on the forum and some people were talking aboutt Differential leaks. If I had a leak like that would I be able to see it ? I can't imagine a leak at 1100 miles but anything is possible.

Thanks,

Only thing inside a differential that can leak is oil... so the question is, do you have oil on the ground where the car is parked?

By the way, differential oil smells like crap, nothing like burning rubber.

I still think this is the new-car/"baby" craze. You're too worried that something is going to be wrong. Seriously, I doubt its anything important (there's a light for that), I'd forget about it unless the problem reappears.

Don't you have the 1,000 mile check-up to go to anyway? Just tell them about it.

I don't know anything about a 1000 mile check up the dealer never mentioned that to me. All I have is a sticker on my mirror that says the oil needs to be changed at 5000 miles.

Should I be scheduling an appointment with the dealer ?

Did you get a maintainence schedule booklet with your car?

In it, when is the first scheduled maintainence due?

(The 1000 mile check-up is more like a "hello! welcome to honda. let's see if there's anything catastrophically wrong with this car, well, it doesn't seem to be on fire, you're good to go.")

Yea I have the books. I still have been pathetically lazy and not looking through all of them. I think its time to do so.

I was suprised that the sticker for the oil change was 5000 miles. Do they end up doing the oil on that first visit ?

dont stress it, for the first 3k miles of my car, i had some really nasty rubbery burning smells coming from the front and rear. you'll be alright. search 'burn in smell', and you'll find a whole bunch on this.
