Default Buzzing/Hissing Noise on Startup

Thanks for reading, hoping someone can help.

The noise is hard to describe, but I hear a buzzing/hissing noise right after the starter goes and ignition occurs. I'm really no expert on the electrical system that starts the car, but I would imagine it's something to do with that.

This noise sounds exactly like the noise that happens if you hold the "engine on" switch too long (which im not doing!) or with a normal car if you hold the key at the ignition position for longer than necessary to start the car.

It typically occurs on a cold start, but has occurred when the car is warm.

One interesting thing- On a few occasions I noticed the oil pressure light faintly flickering while the noise was occurring... which makes me think this is an electrical problem.

Could it be as simple as a sticky starter button? Any problem areas along the electrical system I could inspect first?

Thanks!

Sounds like a sticky starter. MY01 does this in the winter, never in the summer. It could be on the way out. Mine has done it for about 3 years during the winter. You can take it off, and grease it or leave it till it goes.

Thank you! I was hoping it was something like that. Mine is an '01 as well. Is there a tutorial or resource I could use for greasing it?

More than likely it is the TCT(timing chain tensioner) that is making the noise. Very common problem for the S, search for DIY replacement. It is pretty easy to do and there are several different options you can do to correct the issue.

It is not the TCT:
