Default CAI Question

Okay lets lay the ground work, I'm running a AEM V1 cai, as most know the filter lyes about where the phoney vent is on the passenger side. The plastic is removed from the phoney vent area. So my question is if I were to construct something that directed the flow of air more directly to the cai filter would it in return breeth more air? it would be like a snorkel idea for the aem .. I hope you guys understand what im saying lol...

it will flow more direct air to the filter, its not like it will make any HP gains, but it will be a little more efficiant i would imagine.

I think directing more air at one side of the filter will create a low pressure zone on the back side, negating the positive effect. you would need some kind of box around the filter and direct the air into the box so the whole box is pressurized around the entire breathing surface of the filter. need to make sure that filter will withstand added pressure. There's also the question of air consumption balance, as at some point you'll overpressure the box unless you have some safety device. In order to design something like this i think you'd really need to know how the air flows around the car.

you could just try it and see how it does.

Ya gotta give a guy a little time to see these threads.

With the fake airduct already cut out, you will already be pressurizing that compartment when the car is up to speed anyway. Directing the air onto the filter will be of little benefit but I can think of some negatives. If you've had that AEM for any length of time, I'm sure you will have noticed just how filthy the filter gets. It will be covered with all sorts of debris, some of which will be small bits of sand and dirt. Imagine those particles hitting the filter at a high rate of speed. Your filter will take quite a beating and may require much more frequent maintenance. I don't even like the idea of the fake duct being cut out as it is a very direct route for road crap to get in. I had the plastic partition between that compartment and the area just in front of the rad cut and I got a lot of crap in there. But since you've already got it cut out, you should just leave it be. You've done all you can for air flow with that intake.
