Default CAI Wars!

well the recent outbreak of CAIs for our cars have stirred up a lot of commotion. The injen and aem cai prototypes both seem very promising, as well as the current spoon and zeal duct designs. untill they are actually released a lot of us will wonder which one to actually purchase, and if you are like me you will want one the day it is realeased regaurdless of fellow member feedback that may be crutial in your decision making. so from the looks of the designs now which cai would you purchase and why? im leaning on the injen side because it seemed to work wonders for my cuz's type r. also design wise i heard that injen juss rips off the aem design and improves upon it, ie injen improved the aem cai by making less "curvey bends" that made slightly better flow. my decision maybe also biased because i have seen pics of the injen setup and not the aem.

DJ-
If you do a search on CAI you'll find that the Injen unit actually decreases performance at the low end (can't dyno the high end). This is why if you go to group buy and for sale you can find these units frequently. Spoons is very nice but expensive. Mingster has just gone into production on his Spoon knock-off....it is very cost effective. Jury is out on the AEM unit but you know it will be a good one. As you say it's tough to wait....so I ordered Richard's. It should be here in a wek or so.

Hopefully the outrageous cost people are selling these for will go down with more competition!

I am not sure how Injen could rip off of AEM's this time around since AEM hasn't even released a picture of one yet for the S2000.

The Injen is an AEM ripoff because it follows the design that AEM uses for all of their other CAI's on other car's. I can already guess what AEM's intake will look like for our car(just like the one for the Prelude or Civic or Integra, etc.) and I am sure that Injen knew this too. So they just copied the design that AEM uses on other imports and made it work for the S2000.

I want to see what happens with the Kaminari CF hood first before I decide.

I don't think they copied AEM's intake at all. They used my car for like a week and got their design based upon that. Apparently, the previous intake design wasn't done properly because the guy that had it prototyped would not let the technicians remove and hoses and such. As far as losing gains on the low end, that does not appear to be the case at all. I can tell you this based upon my dyno plots and my own personal experience in my car!! I'm very happy with my new Injen CAI. If anyone has any further questions, I'll post the email addy of the contact person at Injen. As far as release of this CAI, I've been told 2-4 weeks..
