Can Mobile 1 really detract from VTEC?

This may be a question best suited for some of the veterans of the board:
A year or two ago, when people were first switching to Mobile 1 at around 10K miles, I remember reading a number of posts about people feeling that VTEC lost its "kick" after switching to the synthetic. Anybody remember? I've done a search recently, but couldn't find any final resolution to that issue.
I know a lot of people are running Mobile 1 and I haven't heard any complaints recently about lost VTEC, so I guess it isn't an issue these days. But as I consider switching over myself, I really would like some explanation as to why some owners where unhappy with Mobile 1 and some assurance that I'm not likely to feel that VTEC is lost.
Thanks in advance.

I just switched to Mobil1 and the Mobil 1 M1-105 filter at 10k. I didn't really notice any fall off in the VTEC 'punch', but the motor does seem a bit smoother overall. I think this may be a perception issue, meaning that I sensed the car was not as raspy sounding at WOT, but it still kicks the butt dyno like it ever did!
3 days later, I got my comptech cai in, so I really only had a short time to evaluate before another mod skewed my perceptions.
I'd say give it a whirl, you can always go back to petrol-based!

Thanks for the feedback so far. It sounds like I'll be fine with Mobile 1. But does anyone remember the problems posted previously about losing the VTEC "kick"?
Fingers, I noticed you said you installed the Mobil 1 M1-105 filter when you switched to Mobile 1 oil. Is a special filter necessary when you go to sythetic (i.e. should I avoid using a Honda filter)? Is the model of filter you identified the only correct one for the S2K? Thanks.

I don't have Mobil 1, but when I switched to Royal Purple Synthetic at 10K, I noticed the transition to VTEC was a bit smoother, but it didn't lose any power and my butt-o-meter says it lost a little bit of kick until 200 mi. had been put on the car since the oil change. Since then, the kick keeps getting stronger.
