can power outlet be changed to always-on...
quick question...
i use the power outlet in my s2k to charge my cell phone. is there any way to modify the power outlet so that it is always on? i have seen a number of post that indicate that the fuse box has an always-on connection. can the power outlet be routed through that circuit???
i'm not electrically inclined so my nomenclature may not be right...
thanks in advance,
- marc

I too would be interested in doing this. I use it for my cell phone too.
Any electrical wizards out there??????
Seems like if we knew what wire (color?) went to the outlet (at the fuse box), we could switch it to one of the always "hot" connectors??????

According to the helm service manual pages 22-89 and 22-90. The accessory power socket is connected via a black ground and a wht/red wire that runs thru the center console to the accessory power socket relay located behind the dash to the right of the steering wheel (pg 22-8). This relay is a 5 terminal type with the following wire colors connecting to it
blu/wht - from the engine start switch and the IG2 relay/starter cut switch
lite blue - from clutch interlock switch
yel/red - from #9 fuse at the fuse box (10Amp) switched hot
wht/red - from the acc power socket
By disconnecting the acc power socket (wht/red) lead from the relay and jumping it over to a 10 amp always hot fuse, you should be OK. I think fuse socket #14 is always hot and unused but you should check it with a meter. Do not exceed the 10Amp fuse, might be even safer to drop to a 7.5 Amp fuse for extra safty.
Just be sure to "cap off" the wht/red wire from the relay securely so that it does not short out against anything since it will be hot when key is on.
Hope that helps
