CANNOT TAKE OFF AXLE NUT!
It will take >300 lb-ft in most cases to break the nut.
I was able to do it with a 1/2" bar with a 3' pipe on it...but if the nut is rusted it may take more like 400 lb-ft to remove...meaning air tools.

I find it easier with the wheel on the ground. Remove the center cap from the wheel. You can then put the socket on the nut with the car on the ground. If your tools are strong enough, your weight is more than adequate. 160 lbs on a 4-foot lever is 640 ft-lbs. Even more if you jump/bounce on the lever.
if u cant do it.. just listen to what redy2ks2k said. it should work. if that still doesn't work. leave ur center cap off. drive to local shop. have them torque it out with a torque gun and then tighten it with a breaker bar and drive it home.

You don't have to unstake it in my experience, I wasted a lot of time on that. I wised up and just used a 3' piece of pipe as an extension to my 1/2" breaker bar. Murder she wrote.
The hub can get damaged if the bearing gets completely FUBARd and then the inside of the hub, where the bearing sits, gets chewed up.
Someone correct me if I am wrong....

I was able to remove both axle nuts on a 2004 ap2 using a $10 25" breaker bar from harbor freight. All I did was lock the wheels with the ebrake(diff was already removed) then cranked the nut loose using the breaker bar extended to around 4ft.
Leverage is key. The socket drive is not important as long as it's 1/2" or larger.
It's time to get your hands on an impact gun. You'll probably want to use it for other things down the road like rotating wheels.

also, realize that rust welds dont like sharp pulls. One sharp impact will be much more effective than a gradual pull. Just be careful to keep the socket seated or you'll end up rounding the nut. Get a friend to push against the socket, with a 2-3 ft pole held horizontally just jump up and down on it. It'll release.
