Default Car #14

This is the 14th S2000 I've found broken retainers on during routine valve adjustment.

00, 26k miles, 2nd owner.

Repaired as usual with updated retainers and keepers.

Also found 4 tight exhaust valves, ranging from .007-.009. Definitely a botched VA from the dealer, or whoever.

Again, this is an AP1 issue only (2000-2003) caused my mechanical (wrong gear) over-rev.

EDIT: also found all spark plugs loose, and the recall was done (punch mark over vin by the battery)

14 cars with broken retainers out of how many AP1's you have repaired?

billman, still new to listening to engine sounds. i have a 2000 with 19946 miles on it. i've only had it since around 13500. is there any obvious clues to the broken retainers??

I'm surprised they punched over the VIN but didn't torque the plugs

yeah the punch mark is part of the TSB, if I'm not mistaken... To indicate that the plugs have been replaced and torqued to the new spec.
