Car is idling very high upon start up...normal?

the colder the weather is, the higher it will be, normally mine is 1500-1800 Rpm

actually most cars do this. the reason is ODBII and emissions compliance/standards. without a high idle upon first starting, a car will not properly warm up the cat and get its emissions into check without doing so. meaning the car wouldn't even be able to be sold in the US.

I'm definetely a newbie to the S2000, but I was concerned when I noticed the idling at 2k.

No, this is not my first car...it's actually my 4th. My Audi S4 and e46 M3 had cold start issues but it would never idle that high. I just wanted to make sure, thanks for the info fellas.

most cars is not every car. I fully understand why the idle is high, but my S4 doesn't do it. My GTI doesn't do it. My I30T didn't do it.
