Cat oxygen sensor appearance?

Even though the outer protective cage is missing, that o2 sensor is fine. If it wasn't, other codes would set. P420 is not related to a broken sensor cage.
Put a spark plug spacer on it and you're done. Not only will it cure your P420, it will protect the sensor element for life.
Adding a single spacer in the cat is a good proactive measure even on a car with no problems or codes, as the cat media breaking loose is extremely common. The spacer will protect it.

I like that idea... this is a great solution. Question - these "o2 sensor extenders" - lots of choices are available. Are they all 18 x 1.5 threads?
And, yes, the old converter has had the catalyst break loose inside, it's moving around and causes a death rattle when idling.
