My friend just changed spoon thermostat, but it triggered the CEL. IS it normal?

 

For 2002up models, there is a coolant temp sensor. While the thermostat has been changed (cuz lower temp.) the CEL will go on. This will not affect the engine or drving at all.

I don't think you should have a CEL. My friend and I both have '02 models, and I have the Mugen thermostat with no CEL, and he has the Spoon thermostat with no CEL.

 

i have an 02 and i have the spoon thermo and my cel came on. and i also noticed that i was always running at two bars unless i ran it hard it went up to three. now i am always running at three. the person i bought the thermo from is sending me a new one so i will keep you guys posted when i install the new one.

 

The colder thermostats will often cause the temp guage to drop down to 2 bars if it is cold outside. That still shouldn't cause a CEL.

I wonder if you guys have some air in the cooling system that is causing the problem. Have you tried a coolant flush / fill / bleed?
