Thumbs up CEL after replacing valve cover

I have an '07 and I replaced the valve cover with a J's Racing. Unfortunately the J's valve cover was a 2004. After the replacement I have a CEL and AVS light on. What could I have screwed up?

The only 2 differences in the valve covers is the 04-05 has an extra hole in the driver side side rear for an additional sensor. I plugged the hole with the correct sensor (just not using the sensor). The second difference is the screw hole for the cam sensor on the top rear is closer to the sensor than the 07. I still used the 07 sensor but I wonder if something happened due to the tight squeeze.

Please help.

Thanks,
Chris

The cam sensor is mounted in a different location IIRC for the 06-07.

Sounds like you need to put your OEM Valve cover back on...

Hmmmm... I thought the 04-05 used 2 cam sensors, in 06 Honda reduced it to just 1 sensor. The 07 sensor fits perfectly it's just that the screw hole is a tiny bit closer but the sensor holes appear to be identical both in size and placement.

I plan on checking the cam sensor part numbers for the 05 and 07 tomorrow.

Even if I swap back to the 07 valve cover I'll still have the CEL until I take it in and get it cleared, correct?

Thanks,
Chris

if you fix the problem the CEL will go away on it's own after a couple of driving cycles.

It's not just the sensor that is different, but the pickup plate on the end of the camshaft.

The 06-07 needs to have it's original sensor mounted in the correct position to work.

I beginning to think you're spot on Chris. I drove it this morning (quick test) and at 3,000 RPMs it would spit, sputter and fall on its face. I'm going to switch the valve covers back tonight to see if the problem resolves itself.

Thanks for the help,
Chris
