So last Friday my CEL went away by itself.... Hopefully thats a good thing. Haven't had any issues with the car all weekend. Hey Bill called and left a msg... guess you were busy for the 4th

p.s. My CEL P1457 comes on and goes off by itself... I never clear it... it'll come on... stay for about 3-4 weeks... go out for a few weeks... then come back... What the hell is it??!?!?!?!?!

P1457 is for a canister side leak, a loose or missing gas cap won't cause it. (Trust me, I've tried to get one to code a 1457 with it)
Most likely cause in cold climates is a corroded/inernally shorted bypass solenoid. H20 can get inside the solenoid, and if it contains road salt corrode the windings.
It's still possible that is has a small vapor leak as well.
Really need to take it to a shop who has experience diagnosing EVAP systems, and has the equipment needed. ( A good scan tool, and a smoke generator)

I know. I've allready answered the question before it was asked.
I could just replace the solenoid, but have read where that did not resolve the issue... I have cleaned the connectors myself, etc.... It must be an intermittent leak because my CEL comes on a goes off every few weeks or so.
