hi, your obviously new to the cel. there is actually a thread just for cel stuff at the very top.
Anyway you can stop by any place with an ODBII reader like autozone and have them read out the code.

good luck

Double WOW!
It's too early in the season. The cabbage patch isn't ripe yet. Musta fell off a turnip truck then.
CEL must mean "Completely Excellent Light".

c'mon guys, cut the man some slack. Everybody has to start somewhere.

Besides, i've heard of people that drove with the oil light on. Thinking it ment, oil is OK

Anyway, he didn't really ask if its bad. he asked WHAT is so bad.

what's bad is the fact that a CEL indicates there is a problem with your car. this could range from your gas cap not being tight enough, to a misfire and major damage costing you thousands of dollars in repairs.

NEVER EVER ignore a CEL. read the sticky at the top.

OK, let's use a little logic and common sense (yeah, I know, that's asking a lot sometimes).
It's called a "Check Engine Light" or "Malfunction Indicator Light". Now, why in God's name, would a car company want you to CHECK the engine when that light comes on? BECAUSE THERE MAY BE SOMETHING WRONG. You would want to CHECK it out to find out what is WRONG so you can resolve it and prevent it from doing harm to the engine.
Now, IF there is a MALFUNCTION somewhere in the operation of the engine or its systems, why wouldn't an owner want to find out what that MALFUNCTION might be?
