Default CEL not lit on startup

I recently purchased an 04 s2000 and i have been loving it. 86000 miles not the best shape but definitly worth what i paid. I just found out i may have a bent valve and so when we checked that we noticed im not getting any CEL when i start up my car. we plugged in my car and got misfire codes but i dont have a CEL. is there something that can be unplugged to do this that maybe the previous owner failed to mention.
any help appreciated
Zach

The bulb could have been removed.

If the codes are there, the system is working and the bulb is not.

If it's missing, someone tried to hide something.

^^^^ yup!

Whenever u turn the key to on it runs bit tests on pretty much most the bulbs, that's how u know to make sure if it was throwing a code the bulb would pop on.

And 86k is nothing to sneeze at lol. Should be running like a top. But maybe that was the reason for the deal. Dont get discouraged quick fix with 86k she will be a top.

This. I learned the hard way to look for all the lights on the dash when turning the key. Bought one of my cars with the SRS bulb removed.

thank you to both of you ill have to check the bulb then. It runs good but low compression. need to have the cylinder head and valves rebuilt so maybe that will fix the low compression. He probably knew and toom the bulb out so i wouldnt see

Removing/replacing light bulbs from the gauge cluster is a major effort to avoid scratching anything. Look for evidence there is the light doesn't illuminate when the ignition is switched on. Without the wiring diagram handy I can't guess if there's a simple wiring cut that will disable it.
