Does the S2000 throw any OEM-specific CEL codes to indicate a problem ?
Codes that throw the CEL light are done so because there is a problem that could be affecting emissions and therefore must be generic. I know of no codes that aren't generic that throw the CEL on.

Does Honda have any manufacturer-specific codes that are ever thrown when the CEL comes on?
Disregard that, I was thinking only generic codes set the CEL because they are all emission related, but some manufacturer specific codes set them too, such as P1121 (TP sensor low). I had a DTC on mine a few weeks ago that was manufacturer specific and didn't throw a code.

That scanner claims to read both generic and manufacturer codes (e.g. "P1xxx"). Would that scanner have properly read your CEL code?
Sorry I was unclear. What I meant, was, I did not have a check engine light but when I went into my data stream just to look around, I found there was a DTC that was a P1xxx. I had a code but no light. The light is functioning properly though because during a compression test (running) I got a check engine light.
Ha I think I got it now. Let me see if I understand it finally. All CELs give generic codes. However, if you hook up an OBD scanner capable of picking up manufacturer specific codes, you can retrieve those codes if there indeed is a problem (like what happened in your case).
