Im sorry about your engine issue, but i wana share a tip with you in terms of shifting, i learned this from a friend of mine who races for real-time acura in the speedvision series. He won rookieof the year in his class last year. If you want to shift into 4th just put the clutch, let the gear FALL into neutral (you know what i mean) and then pull strait down, letting the gear fall into 4th is so much easier than forcing it into a gear...if you want to get into 3rd or 4th just let it fall into the gear.if you want to get into 1st or 2nd apply pressure to the left side of the gear box, if you want to go into 5th or 6th, apply pressure to the right side of the gear box, this is alot easier than forcing it into all the gears, i think this tranny was madeto finess it rather than be forced....ifyou take it nice and easy you should not have any problems.
Thats pretty much the only way to drive the s2000, or any manual trans car for that matter. I would like to assume everyone on here drives that way normally. Sometimes, we all slip up and make mistakes; after all, we're only human.

please continue... Im having the head pulled and looked at as stated above. What are the key areas i need to examin and can the valves and retainers be replaced without shipping the head off to a shop?????
Really just depends on the damage.

If your cylinders hit the valves they may need to be replaced as well. You won't know until you look.

what he said. if your mechanic is a decent mechanic, he'll know what to look for in the case of an overrev.

Am I seeing this pic correctly? It looks like some of the retainers have moved far up the valve stems (as seem in some othe over-revved engines).

Can we get a code without the cel light coming on?? I did almost the same thing and wanna go check it. I have no cel on.
I dont think so. In order to get a DTC, the light would have to come on at some point.
Actually the ECU/ECM stores two types of DTC, my scan tool refers to them as "pending" and "stored". It is my understanding that if a cylinder misfire is detected a "pending" DTC is issued in the ECU, however no CEL/MIL will be triggered until the same DTC is repeated. If the same DTC is issued again then the "pending"DTC is bumped to a "stored" DTC and CEL/MIL triggered. Also I'm pretty sure if the original "pending" DTC is not repeated in a certain number of driving cycles then it is eventually cleared from the "pending" DTC's.

I have seen a pending misfire DTC in GF's 02 civic EX, can't remeber specifically however I think it had the ramdom misfire as well as a a specific cylinder DTC. The CEL was NOT on, I was double checking to make sure my scan tool couldn't pull SRS DTC (no it can't, have to jump OBDII and get the blinky code). I didn't clear the pending DTC, but I can't remember if it was gone when I re-checked it. I think it was because the CEL\MIL never came on and I don't remember clearing it.
I think the loose gas cap DTC clears itself if the problem is corrected (even with CEL\Mil on right?). I don't know if pending DTC is thrown for everything, but for some stuff it is. Maybe even for the gas cap (never tried). Anyway if I'm way off here someone will correct me soon.
I guess if you have a problem though it is safe to say the CEL\MIL would come on at some point, so I am not really disputing anything, just trying to elaborate. BTW good pics in this thread.

I was thinking the same thing. They are on the intake side, which are always the ones that split.
