Default CEL & Throttle body

My brother in law recently passed awasy and we "inherited" his 2000 S2000. Since we have had it we have replaced the tires, brakes and serviced it. Now we have a nonblinking CEL and the Honda dealer says that we need a throttle body $900. Now between the diagnosis and the appt the CEL has gone off. Should I still take it in for the throttle body since the light was on? Thanks PS my brother in law raced a Lotus and BMW bikes so I belive that he took good care of his cars.

What was the actual error code? Keep in mind, they'd love to sell you something you don't really need.

CELs are for sensors not actual parts.

Did they actually trouble-shoot it? It could be something as simple as a loose/dirty connection at the throttle body. As JDM points out, most dealerships are basicaly parts swappers. They get a code then swap a part, whether it's bad or not. All the code means is what testing sequence you're supposed to follow in the manual.

If the code went away, I wouldn't worry about it any more.
