Changing Clutch?
I've helped change two S2000 clutches and the alignment tool is helpful. You can get a universal tool at Pepboys for about $25 but I think we needed to modify it to get it to work. The kit included an aluminum rod with sleeves of various diameters. The problem we ran into is the sleeve we used needed to have the OD turned down a bit so it would slide through the pressure plate (If I remember correctly).
Like others have said, if you have a dowl that's the right length and diameter I'm sure it will work also. Hope this helped.

OK, the consensus here is the plastic tool is important. I've done a number of clutches over the years with a make-do alignment tool (usually a piece of broom stick pointed on one end) without problem.. so I'm gonna guess it has more to do with careful reassembly than a specific tool.

If the disk is slightly off-center, you may still be able to wrestle the tranny back into the bell housing, but do you want your disk slightly off-center even if it is only an amount that can be measured in thousandths of an inch?
If you can get an alignment tool then it's highly recommended.

Then, using a flat blade screwdriver I went around the flywheel and ensured the edges were even, then tightened up the PP. Fitting the transmission by yourself whilst lying on your back under a car that is only about 50cm off the ground is no easy task at the best of times but with a non-aligned friction disk it would be hell.
But the fact is, if you can fit the transmission it's aligned. End of story.

Think about what happens the first time the driver depresses the clutch pedal... The pressure plate moves away from the disk and the disk is free to slide on the transmission input shaft, probably taking on a microscopically different alignment every time the pedal is released.
thanks for all the useful info. I am going to contact ACT and see if they can send me one. If not I used to work at a trans shop so I am sure my old boss will have something for me.
Is this the right size allighnment tool/hub 24 spline, 26mm???????

I used a socket of the correct diameter. Worst case of not using the right tool, as was said previously, is that the transmission doesn't slide on, which requires realigning the clutch disk and trying again.

No No you can get a 2 dollar 24 spline 1 inch alignment tool from an auto parts store. they will show about 5 different ones that are 24 spline by 1 inch, get the one with the largest end or 26mm (end) that is what i used and it worked great.
Ok you guys that have replaced your s2000 clucth. HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET THE TOP LEFT SIDE TRANNY BOLT OFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a bitch. We didn't even put it back in because it's impossible. How did it take you guys to replace your clutchs?
