Another thread about "hand tightening" oil filters.

Don't let the masses talk you into hand tightening... use the adapter and torque wrench when possible.

no, fram
I didnt read any further down then this post.

Been using fram filters for over 10 years and never once had a issue. Have had them on my 600whp eg and never a issue, use them on my S with success and my Vity likes them as well.

No need to spend the extra cash, some do it and thats fine, some dont and its fine as well.

When they make a jdm green filter that says takata on it, Im all over it

Yup....I hand tighten every other car, customer cars, etc.
The S2000 I torque, or they can come loose.
I'm just saying........

I paid around 380 after tax from the snap on guy. Best torque wrench ever. I only use it when i work on my car or on critical components on customer's cars. I have the regular dual beam torque wrenches for day to day use.

lol... 380. Now I remember why I don't buy Snap-On.

Great for dick waving contests between mechanics but I'm fine with the stuff I buy that is 1/3 the cost and life-time warrantied nonetheless.

So you're here 3 weeks and insult the mans tool? Way to make friends Empower.
You've got tool envy.
Go back to Sears.
Snap on, MAC and other pro tools are for pros. You can drive a yugo, or an s2000. Both are transportation tools. Which one are you?
Not meant to fire you up, just realize some are here to help and not be off-topic critic trolls. Come on and be Cool

^haha true true..

but what empower says is true though, most people wouldnt be able to afford it. i am jealous though..i want me some snap on tools...

me? i usually hand-tighten but after reading the bad bad news on s2ki of filters flying off, i used my oil-remover-wrench and sort of 'tightened' it.

made sure no oil was spilling for the next few days..marked the 'top' of the filter as "XXXXTOP!!!!!" and every fill up when you check oil, i check my filter to make sure its THE TOP! haha

Amen brother.

Use the RIGHT stock filter, and crank, not with a torque wrench but by hand until you feel the metal to metal contact. And, if you did it right, you will need to use a wrench to get it off.
