Default Check engine light for CAI

Ok, here goes, kinda long. Some background info first. I've had my Injen CAI for almost a year now and have never had any problems. Also, I personally installed it myself. The only other people that have touched the engine bay are the guys from ROAR while fitting the prototype CAI, and my dealer.

About a week after having the clutch desceleration noise TSB done, my check engine light came on. I pulled the fuse to reset the light, but it came back on a day later. So, I took it too the dealer. He mumbled something about the sensor attached to the intake and how the wire had rubbed on the one of the belts and worn through. He repaired the wire, cleared the ecu and I left with no $ out of my pocket.

It was fine for a couple of days, then it popped back on. I keep pulling the back up fuse only for it to pop on again. I folowed Dark's and Utah's advice in a previous thread and checked all of the hoses and valve, but everything seems fine. Could I have damaged the sensor itself?

I'm going to take it back into the dealer and see if they can try something else. Also, my warantee will be running out next month. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. The weird thing is that it seems to only happen when I start it in my garage or the underground garage at my work. Is this coincidence?

Just an update if anyone is interested. I took it in to the dealer today and they spoke to the main techs at Honda. Honda says that it shouldn't be caused by the intake. The code it's sending has to do with the "air flow". The dealer thinks that it's the ecu itself and is going to swap it out tomorrow. Hopefully that's all. I'm begining to wonder if I should consider extending my warantee. Has anyone else had their ecu replaced?

Thanx for answering. I was beginning to feel a little lonely here. My idle has been a little funny lately, but I just figured it was because of the heat. I guess we'll see.

Sorry for the late reply,

"Air Flow" is directly related to the Air Control Solenoid you say was shorted out. This solenoid diverts cool intake air into the exhaust ports at low temp to reduce emissions. You may feel some cold start issues if this valve is not functioning properly as it controls the secondary air pump system.

From what you describe your system is most likely presenting Diagnostic Trouble Code PO411: Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow. Most likely you blew fuse number 6 ACG (15 Amp) located in the fuse under dash relay box when the wire touched ground. This fuse is there to protect the ECM! Or you may have damaged the Air Control Solenoid valve during the short out "event". I would proceed as follows:

1) Repair the wire which shorted to ground (i.e. wore through)- already done according to your post.
2) Replace the fuse noted above- FIRST
3) Check function (i.e. no MIL PO411 code set)
4) If Mil set, replace same fuse and Air control solenoid valve
Note: This would positively isolate the Air Control Valve as opposed to the ECU as the culprit.
5) Check function (i.e. no Mil PO0411 code set)
6) If Mil set, try a second ECU.

I put my money on a blown fuse .........................

Thanx for the reply Utah. I was wondering when you might chime in Aparently they decided to overnight me a new ecu last thurs, but it didn't get out in time so the dealer has it until monday. I'm not really sure if they checked the fuse or not. When I talk to him Monday I'll ask. Thanx again.

So they replaced the ECU and I got the car back today....albeit with a huge pile of bird $hit on the trunk. That's ok because I told them not to wash it when I dropped it off. Anyway, no cel and no shaking, shuddering, or almost stalling when I was in traffic today. Coincidence? hmmmm......
