Cleaned vtec solenoid and found little black specks in the screen... what could it be from?

Cleaned vtec solenoid and found little black specks in the screen... what could it be from?
So I decided to take out the vtec solenoid so I can try to fix a leak and I found dark black specks in the screen. What could it be?

Scrape them off onto a piece of white paper.
Are they metallic ? , or more like an o-ring material ?.
It could also be carbon or varnish

They don't seem metallic like steel or copper. They are flat black. One of the particles broke up when I squeezed it between my finger nails, but another did not. They seem hard and brittle with no sheen...

probably dried carbon, clean the screen and you should be fine.
