Default Clock spring cable reel install.

My horn works on and off and my SRS light came on. Dealer suggested that I might need to change out the clock spring and cable reel. I've order the part and planning to change it out myself. My question is: Beside disconnecting the battery, is there any other steps that needs to be done before de-installing the Airbag/steering wheels ? I dont have a OEM Manual.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, after you disconnect the battery, leave the car alone for 1/2 hour before you start working on it. The time isn't 1/2 hour but, I'd wait that long to be safe. Manual actually says 3 minutes.

The airbags don't need the battery to ignite. There's a backup power source, typically a huge capacitor which can blow the bags in cases where the battery gets crushed/disconnected in the instant an accident occurs. These thing will typically bleed down

or you could drain the cap using a screw driver. granted that doesnt cause the bags to deploy

HAHA....I am a Honda tech. and I don't even do that.......
I don't even dis-connect the battery.....

In fact, I just did a cable reel on a 06 ridgeline yesterday....
All I did was pull the horn fuse, so the horn won't go crazy when I am working on the steering wheel.....

I pulled that fuse, removed the 2 torx screws, can't remember was T27 or T30,
pulled the airbag out, unplugged the yellow SRS connector, the black horn
connector and the green cruise control connector...1/2" 19mm socket to take the
steering wheel nut off, bang the steering couple times with my hand, steering wheel comes off,
removed the upper and lower cover, traced down the yellow SRS wire, unplugged the connector, 2 clips, and the cable reel is out !!!
